All proceeds benefit Habitat & Sustainable Shawnee SUSTAINABLE SHAWNEE is dedicated to sustainable living and educating the local community to live more "gently" on our planet. Our activities include encouraging recycling and reuse, the sustainable use of natural resources, the maintenance of a healthy environment, and support of local foods and food producers. We are a part of the Oklahoma Sustainability Network. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY believes that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat and its homeowner families build or rehabilitate "good" houses. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build together in partnership. The local chapter is a part of Habitat for Humanity International.
ANN ZIMMERMAN sings the prairie into universal language. Her music celebrates the joy, sorrow, grandeur and silliness of life, especially life on the windy Great Plains. She backs her rich voice with piano and guitar, and she has turned audiences across the country into her backup choirs. Ann's concerts tell stories and paint portraits, brilliantly-colored and surprising, and her stage presence is irresistible.
Ann grew up in Salina, Kansas, singing folksongs with her family to the strums of her mother's autoharp. She has been an elementary teacher, a bank clerk, a plumbing catalog editor, an agricultural intern, and president of a Kansas environmental group. Today she lives on a horse-boarding farm and divides her time between music and a career in legal mediation. She's a Harvard lawyer with roots deep in the heartland.
If you would like to be a "patron" of the concert, consider a $50 patron donation. You'll get one of Ann's CDs as a bonus for your gift to Habitat and Sustainable Shawnee. Call 273-0110 or 275-1990 and ask to be a WinterSong patron.
